![]() And in both, a cataclysm was wrought by ancient gods now absent (although at least one of them may return in AOD). Both are set in a post-apocalyptic world previously ruled by an obvious Roman Empire equivalent- complete with troops that look like legionaries, and a language represented by Latin. :)'Ĭoincidentally (or not?), the setting of Vagrus closely resembles that of Age of Decadence (AOD). So if it invokes the desert/wasteland vibe similar to Dark Sun it's a good thing. I'd say this setting is very different from Dark Sun in most aspects (lore, magic, races, geography, history, etc) yet you can surely find similarities (as well as with Ravenloft or Planescape) and influences because I was a great fan of Dark Sun in the late 90s. ![]() That, more than anything else, influenced the world in its early stages (or I should say this part of the world, since this is only one continent of four). I read Fighting Fantasy books and I loved Titan, in which the continent of Khul was a dark, fallen place with wastelands and cursed landscapes. but back when I had laid the ground work for the world in the late 80s/early 90s I did not know Dark Sun, nor any other DnD setting (we're not from a Western country, see). 'Dark Sun back in the ADnD days did have a heavy influence on it (along with many other settings and worlds I read about). ![]() We received a very similar query not so long ago, so let me quote from our Creative Lead who's also the author of our setting:The Riven Realms.
